Okay, it’s been probably over six months that I haven’t posted here and I give up about making promises about keeping this blog updated. Lots of things had happened this past year and the most important thing is that I got accepted to the Brigham Young University (BYU)! I was in this process since the beginning of the year, studying for the TOEFL test, took the test in March, applied that month to LDSBC, BYU-Idaho, and the one that I wanted most, BYU Provo. In October I received the decision and I literally cried for an hour of happiness. It’s been twelve years since I decided that I wanted to go to BYU, but I honestly wasn’t sure that this would happen to me. Life turned around, things changed, I end up coming to the USA, and now after almost four years that I’ve been living here this is happening and today is my first day of school!

Okay, já fazem provavelmente seis meses que eu não tenho postado aqui e eu desisto de fazer promessas sobre manter esse blog atualizado. Muita coisa aconteceu nesse ano que passou e o mais importante é que eu fui aceita na Universidade Brigham Young (BYU)! Estava nesse processo desde o começo do ano, estudando para o TOEFL, fiz o teste em março, apliquei para a LDSBC, BYU-Idaho, e a que eu queria mais, BYU Provo. Em outubro eu recebi a decisão e eu literalmente chorei por uma hora de felicidade. São doze anos desde que decidi que queria estudar na BYU, mas honestamente eu não achava que isso aconteceria um dia. A vida deu voltas, muitas coisas mudaram, e eu acabei vindo morar nos EUA, e agora depois de quase quatro anos morando aqui hoje está acontecendo e hoje é meu primeiro dia de aula!

I had a lot of mixed feelings these past months, of happiness, excitement, fear, but I know that this is happening for a reason and after all God is with me and everything will work out at the end.

Eu tive muitos sentimentos misturados nesses últimos meses, de animação, felicidade, medo, mas eu sei que isso está acontecendo por um motivo e sei que Deus está comigo e que tudo vai dar certo no final.

Saturday was the orientation day and I was at the university from 8 am to 6 pm getting to know more about the university and taking tours at the campus. I love it all so much already! It made me cry to hear the BYU’s story and all the sacrifices that were made for us to have this amazing university today. I feel so grateful to have the opportunity to study in a very selective and one of the best universities in the USA, and being an LDS studying at BYU will help me to grow so much in not only the academic knowledge but also spiritual.

Sábado foi dia de orientação onde eles mostram o campus e fazem atividades para ajudar os alunos a fazerem amizades, e eu estava na BYU das 8h até às 18h. Eu amo tudo isso muito já! Eu chorei quando eu ouvi a história da BYU e todos os sacríficios que foram feitos para ter essa maravilhosa universidade que é hoje. Me sinto muito grata de ter a oportunidade de ter sido aceita numa universidade bem seletiva e uma das melhores dos EUA, e sendo SUD estudar na BYU vai me ajudar a crescer muito não somente na parte academica mas também na espiritual.

Even though I wish I had spent this past Fourth of July in Washington D.C. it didn’t happen, I watched the fireworks this year at the Thanksgiving Point in Utah. These pictures were taken two years ago while I was living in Virginia, and as I haven’t posted them yet I thought it would be a great opportunity to post it as we are still feeling the holiday.

Spending the Fourth of July in D.C. is with no doubt one of those cool experiences that you have to put in your budget list.

Mesmo que eu queria muito ter passado o feriado de Fourth of July (Dia da Independência) em Washington D.C. isso não aconteceu, eu assisti os fogos este ano no Thanksgiving Point em Utah. Essas fotos foram tiradas dois anos atrás quando eu morava na Virginia, e como ainda não tinha postado essas fotos eu achei que agora seria uma ótima oportunidade já que o feriado foi a dois dias atrás.

Passar o feriado de Fourth of July em D.C. é sem dúvida uma daquelas experiências super legais que você deve colocar na sua lista.

There is anything more patriotic than to spend the Independence Day at the heart of the country. The parade is pretty cool, with the military, army, navy and so on. There are so many events celebrating the Independence that’s something to spend the whole day there, watching the parade, visiting the Arlington Cemetery, watching the ceremonies… The list is huge!

Não tem nada mais patriótico do que passar o dia da Independência no coração do país. O desfile é bem legal, com os militares, forças armadas, marinha e assim vai. Tem tantos eventos celebrando a Independência que é algo para passar o dia todo lá, assistindo o desfile, visitando o Cemitério em Arlington (onde estão muitos que lutaram nas guerras), assistindo as cerimônias… A lista é grande!

They have one of the largest event for the Fourth of July. The National Mall is gigantic and there is place for thousands of people. We sat below the stairs at the Lincoln Memorial so we had the pool that reflect the fireworks in the water. The fireworks show lasted about 20 minutes and it was incredible beautiful.

Eles tem um dos maiores eventos para o Fourth of July. O National Mall é enorme e tem lugar para milhares de pessoas. A gente sentou perto da escadaria do Lincoln Memorial e então a gente teve essa vista da piscina que refletiu os fogos na água. O show de fogos durou cerca de 20 minutes e foi incrivelmente bonito.

One of the coolest thing about celebrating this holiday in D.C. is that there are people from everywhere in the world. It’s neat to see people from other countries celebrating the independence of a country they don’t belong to. I think that’s a way to create bonds and respect. At that day I celebrated with friends from different countries, my bestie being from Spain, a friend from Russia, and the other being American.

Uma das coisas mais legais sobre celebrar esse feriado em D.C. é que tem gente de todo lugar do mundo. É interessante de ver pessoas de outros países celebrando a independência de um país que eles não pertecem. Acho que isso é uma forma de criar laços e respeito. Nesse dia eu passei com amigos de diferentes países, minha melhor amiga sendo da Espanha, uma amiga da Russia, e um outro que era americano. 

I got the chance to have this picture below included in this National Geographic’s documentary about the National Mall. The program was aired in April 2015, and now they have it as DVD. So I can tell you that this experience at the Fourth of July in D.C. will be always something special to me.

Eu tive a chance de ter essa foto abaixo incluída nesse documentário no National Geographic sobre o National Mall. O programa foi ao ar em Abril de 2015 e agora eles tem em DVD. Então posso dizer que essa experiência do Fourth of July em D.C. será para sempre especial para mim.

Tips & Info:

• Get there early: It gets crowded fast and if you want a good spot that’s something you should do.
• Bring a blanket: It will help you to mark your space and also keep your clothes clean.
• Alcoholic beverages are not accepted.
• If you will bring your DSLR, bring also a tripod. This way you will prevent of having blurry pictures (I forgot to bring mine).
• It’s free!

Dicas & Info:

• Chegue lá cedo: Tudo começa a lotar rápido e se você quiser um lugar bom isso é algo que você deve fazer.
• Traga um cobertor: Aqui americanos adoram colocar cobertor no chão onde quer que vão. É bom pra marcar o seu lugar e não sujar as roupas.
• Bebidas alcoólicas não são permitidas.
• Se você trazer sua câmera, traga também um tripé. Assim você vai conseguir fotos nítidas (eu esqueci de trazer o meu).
• É grátis!

This morning I was surprised when I opened my Facebook and it showed a memory from three years ago, when a friend posted on my timeline about me finally moving to the USA. That made me cry to think how I felt at that time, the deep desire to come to this country, and this dream was finally coming true. It’s crazy to think but it’s been three years already!!

It’s been great living here these couple of years. I can speak a language I love everyday, I’ve had so many opportunities here that helped me to grow with my business and my personal life, I feel so comfortable with the culture, and this was the place where I found myself and start to love myself the way I am. Here, different from what I previously thought that it would be, I accepted my skin color, that I’m short, also that I’m skinny. The way that people treat me here makes me feel pretty and attractive the way I am.

I like American guys. In general they are kind, respectful, and I think they are handsome. Surprisingly, I’m still single! Many people think it’s so easy to get married here in the States, mostly in Utah, but the reality is another, haha. I’m also picky so that doesn’t help me much. Well, I want to do it right.

There are machines for almost everything, and that help our lives to be less complicated. I don’t need to go inside the bank to make deposits or withdraw money, because it all can be done using the drive-thru ATM. If I’m too lazy to drive to the bank I can just deposit a check by phone. It’s that simple. It’s great to have the clothes dry on the dryers. It’s so good to not feel too hot or too cold because there is furnace in every house you go. Even the can openers are easier to use here! Why make things hard if it can be simpler, right?!

I could barely have a conversation in English when I got here, but it has been improving along the years. I took the TOEFL test a few months ago and I got a good score, so I’ll be going to college in a few months. Life has been busy with lots of projects going on, school and personal life events, but I can say that life is treating me well.

I like that Philip Philips’ song that says, “Just know you’re not alone, cause I’m going to make this place your home”. Here is home to me already.

I know I haven’t blogged for months, but today I felt the desire to do it again so I’ll try to keep posting here. Thanks for reading this!

Essa manhã eu tive uma surpresa quando eu abri meu Facebook e vi uma memória de três anos atrás, quando uma amiga postou na minha timeline sobre eu finalmente mudar para os EUA. Isso me fez chorar ao pensar como eu me sentia naquele tempo, do desejo grande que eu tinha de vir para cá, e que o meu sonho de anos finalmente estava se tornando realidade. É estranho de pensar, mas fazem três anos já!!

Tem sido ótimo viver aqui esses anos. Eu posso falar um idioma que eu amo todos os dias, tenho tido muitas oportunidades que tem ajudado o meu negócio crescer e também oportunidade de crescimento pessoal, eu me sinto tão confortável com a cultura, e esse foi o lugar onde eu me encontrei e onde comecei a me amar do jeito que eu sou. Aqui, diferente do que eu achava antes que seria, eu aceitei minha cor de pele, que eu sou baixinha e que sou magra. A forma com que as pessoas me tratam aqui fazem eu me sentir bonita e atraente do jeito que eu sou.

Eu gosto de americanos. Em geral eles são gentis, respeitosos e eu acho que são muito bonitos. Surpreendentemente, eu ainda estou solteira! Muita gente pensa que é fácil casar aqui nos EUA, muito mais em Utah, mas a realidade é outra, haha. E eu sou exigente então isso não me ajuda muito. Bem, eu quero fazer a escolha certa.

Aqui tem máquinas para quase tudo e isso ajuda com que a vida seja menos complicada. Eu não preciso ir dentro do banco para fazer depósitos ou sacar dinheiro, isso tudo pode ser feito pelo caixa eletrônico drive-thru. E se a preguiça é grande para dirigir até o banco, eu posso fazer o depósito do cheque pelo celular. Simples assim. É ótimo poder secar as roupas na máquina. É muito bom não sentir tão quente e nem tão frio, porque tem ar condicionado em todas as casas que vai. Até o abridor de latas aqui é mais fácil de usar! Porque fazer coisas difíceis se elas pode ser mais simples, né?!

Eu mal podia falar inglês quando cheguei aqui, mas meu inglês tem melhorado nesses anos. Eu fiz o teste do TOEFL esses meses atrás e consegui uma pontuação boa, então eu estarei indo para a faculdade em alguns meses. A vida tem sido louca com muitos projetos, escola e coisas da minha vida pessoal, mas posso dizer que a vida tem sido boa.

Eu gosto daquela música do Philip Philips que diz algo assim, “Só saiba que você não está sozinho, porque eu vou fazer com que esse lugar seja sua casa”. E já sinto que aqui é minha casa.

Eu não tenho postado aqui por muito tempo, mas hoje eu senti o desejo de novo e vou tentar postar mais aqui. Obrigada por ler isso!
